A Content Management System is a web application that gets installed on your hosting server and which one uses to develop a website.

Joomla! is our preferred CMS. We have opted for Joomla! because it is open source (free to use), easier to use than others (in our opinion), is internationally supported, and because we can set up a test server on our local machines (Machintosh). Joomla! is written in php which is also our scripting language of choice.

A Content Management System (CMS) enables easy updating, site management and extensibility — the 3 main advantages over static websites.

A CMS website is for you if you:

  • need to make regular changes to your website;
  • intend to add to the existing functionality of your website over time (such as adding e-commerce);
  • require user interactivity (such as unlocking additional information for registered users);
  • require a database (such as having a product listing, or photo gallery)
